Our Green Initiative

Center for Spiritual Living, Simi Valley envisions a world where individuals consciously care for each other and the entire planet. We know that this brings the gift of active compassion and kindness to our world. We recognize that often we take one another and our planet for granted and we forget the sacred connection that we all have. We are inspired by those who work to make this planet a better place for all life.

Join us in taking one eco step into sustainable practice and conscious action while walking more gently on our Earth.

"I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes." ~e.e. cummings

We honor those organizations and individuals who are making a difference in our world. We believe that our wise choices can result in the renewal and restoration of the Earth's natural ecology and her resources. The powerful source document "Declaration of our Awakened New World" by the Association of Global New Thought relays sentiments that we deeply connect with.

They state: "Global resources are shared by all, eliminating the concepts of "first and third" worlds. Ethnocentric nationalism fades away as Spiritual communities take root in every culture". At our Center we recently had a representative from Equal Exchange, a Fair Trade Company, at our Center. Equal Exchange's mission is "to build long-term trade partnerships that are economically just and environmentally sound, to foster mutually beneficial relationships between farmers and consumers..."

What is Fair Trade? Fair Trade is an economic partnership based on dialogue, transparency, and respect. We at the Center for Spiritual Living, Simi Valley, know that having a balanced system of trade is a necessary part of creating a more peaceful world. We support this idea by offering fair trade coffee and tea for refreshments at Sunday Services and events.

Center for Spiritual Living is actively engaging in sustainable practice and will continue to develop our Green Initiative. From changing to more earth friendly products at our Center, to supporting organizations which bring more balance to our Earth, we are taking step after green step towards a mutually beneficial relationship with our world.

Here are 5 easy changes that you can make, one eco step at a time.

1. Buy toilet paper which is made from recycled content. Shop around, some brands are far superior to others. One brand that we can buy locally is CVS store brand which is very reasonably priced, especially when they have sales every few months. This product is far better in value than some other brands of toilet paper made from recycled content.

2. Buy paper which is made from recycled content for your printing and home use. Check out bizrate to find the best price online.

3. Recycle all plastics, clean paper, bottles and aluminum.

4. Switch to energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs. They consume up to 75 % less energy and last 10 times longer.

5. Buy local and organic produce. Buying local and organic produce makes sense. Eating what is fresh and in season is good for us, and supporting farms who have sustainable practice feels good and helps our earth.
